Heiho let’s go!

I heard rumors that some people have been questioning about the exhibition #HLab14 will be having in the end of this main phase. Hehehe. I also do not know how it will exactly look like …

But here’s what I have in mind:
We will be exhibiting in a gallery space, not so white cube in the sense of its look/appearance, but it is a white cube in a broader sense of it
It is the typical environment that I work around so I kind of can map the kind of people that will come to these type of spaces: In general, they are the art public. People who are used to coming to art shows therefore they are artsy and thinks that they know everything about art, especially contemporary arts. Though so, media art/new media art/bioart/whatever you wanna call it is not a common practice in this part of the world. Considering that, we will be speaking/using “the arts language/terms” for the exhibition-related publication and wall texts
Our stance on the exhibition is that this is a (or one of the) way(s) to disseminate the idea of DIWO (Do It With Others/which is the extension of DIY) within the context of citizen initiative in arts and science. We chose to use the “citizen initiative” term because it is more open in the sense that it does not necessarily only to citizen science practices but also to cultural acts/movements/initiatives
So the exhibition does not necessarily need finished objects nor projects, but it needs to highlight the three ecological nodes in #HLab14 and the participants’ collaboration surrounding that (be it projects or artworks/objects). Collaborative process and work is the of course one of the main keywords (I tend to avoid the term participatory because of its political stance within the arts)
Currently, I have this imagination of exhibition format just to ease my mind. Haha. Please note, this is just an imagination, my imagination. The exhibition is generally divided to three ecological needs (forest, river, volcano); so basically its just like entering a small Jogja by its ecologies. What is shown is instructions and kits of stuff that people can make (or interact with); e.g. MAKE YOUR OWN SMOKE BOMB - instructions, kit on a table, and a space to tryout what people have made. So it is pretty much adopting the common form of educational exhibition though it will not stop there. Some of the on-going projects will definitely resulted in a form of presentable project/artwork (for that we would most probably show the process and develop further discussions on the topic)
The exhibition is OF COURSE open for whatever mediums; video, performance, painting, sculpture, object, pure data, yadda yadda yadda…
Before I use my imagination too much—and at some point it might be useless too—; that is it for now… Shoot some ideas if you guys have any! Both on the form and also conceptually about the exhibition! I will start working on Langgeng Art Foundation (Gallery 2) from April 22

Cheers!
