Kolar district in Karnataka has a case of Arsenic contamination due to the nearby gold mines.

During our visit on 21st March, we aim to find out what the residents of Kolar know regarding the Arsenic contamination, how they deal with it, the extent of Arsenic poisoning, and what their viable options for steps after detection.<p> <p>During our second visit, we will undertake:

  • Data Mapping the various contamination sites
  • Primary Research by collecting samples and interviewing the locals to know their perspective of the situation
  • Documentation - A short film, along with a 360degree panaroma
  • Interacting with the locals - conduct workshops, or plays along with set up installations/data visualization to effectively communicate/educate the people; Collaborate with AADIMA - the local theater group
  • Suggest simple solutions for the locals to remove Arsenic from water, keeping the ethnographic design process in mind
