Since 2009, hackteria has collaborated with various communities in Yogyakarta and had the opportunity to give presentations and workshops at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
DIY microscopy @ Faculty of Agricultural Technology . 2009
During the participation at cellsbutton#03, we first time met Prof. Irfan D. Prijambada, who then invited us, with help from other participants and the HONF crew, to give a workshop on DIY microscopy to his students in microbiology and agriculture.
PS3 Eye hacks and haemocytometers @ Faculty of Agricultural Technology – 2010
Together with Akbar, microbiologist and DIY wine fermentation-guru from the agriculture faculty in Gadjah Mada University (UGM), we have been working on modifying an old microsope stage, they had lying around in the lab. We removed a lot of the old optical parts, and ended up, mounting the hacked PS3 Eye on the lower part of the stage, so we could adjust focus and use the X-Y stage as before. During the experimentation with the hacked PS3 Eye camera, we figured out that you can highly improve the magnification by replacing the original lens, with one from a cheap webcam and place it even further away from the CMOS camera chip. We tested the setup for doing haemocytometry, counting yeast cells or blood cells. See more info here.
Spherification of tropical fruits and wine – 2012
During the “Hacking Angkringan” workshop together with Denisa Kera and Marc Dusseiller aka dusjagr, hosted by the HONFablab, we again went to work with the students of microbiology to do a Spherification workshop, using tropical fruits and also experimenting in spherifying the locally made wines by Timbil.
Presentation and Demonstrations @ Fakultas Teknik – 2013
After a meeting with Pak Donny, microbiology, and Pak Alva, product design and biomaterials, we got a chance to give a presentation to various lecturers and students in the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, presenting a general overview of Hacking -> BioHacking, some recent developments of cheap microcontroller environments, BabyGnusbuino, an introduction of lifepatch’s activities, and an overview of various hacked lab-infrastructure projects from the hackteria framework, such as the DIY microscope, hacked CD-drive laser-cutter, some microFluidics and other cheap DIY lab gear.
